Chartered Cost Engineer ™

The Chartered Cost Engineer (ChCE) is a gold-standard certification awarded by the Global Academy of Finance and Management ®.  Earning the ChCE designation demonstrates that you have skills and experience in managing project cost and finances throughout the project life cycle, preparing estimates, budgets, cost plans, handling contracts and resolve disputes related to project costs that is crucial in ensuring projects are completed within budget and on time.

A Cost Engineer contributes to the success of the construction project management process. Cost Engineer roles and responsibilities are to provide informed decisions about the budget and timeline of the projects as well as valuable insights that aid in the proper allocation of resources, identifying possible risks, and determining production costs.

Cost Engineer is responsible for managing and providing guidelines on costs and resources for the whole construction operations process. Among their tasks are controlling the costs of supplies, assisting the project management team in making estimates, preparing revenue predictions, and calculating potential risks. Cost Engineers make sure projects are within budget and on schedule.

Cost Engineer Responsibilities

  • Preparation of construction cost estimates
  • Preparation and pricing of bills of quantities for tender and value engineering thereof
  • Contract documentation
  • Attending site meetings and inspections
  • Preparation of cash flow forecasts
  • Advising clients/consultants on cost implications of arising variations
  • Carrying out site re-measurements
  • Carrying out interim valuations of works
  • Preparing project financial appraisals
  • Preparing of final account and agreeing with all parties
  • Assessing contractor’s claims

Requirements:  

i)  Bachelors in Engineering, Quantity Surveying  or equivalent      ii)  2+ years as a Quantity Surveyor  or similar role         iii)  Pass the  examination
