Chartered Cost Engineer ™

The Chartered Cost Engineer (ChCE) is a gold-standard certification from The American Academy of Project Management ®.  Earning the ChCE designation demonstrates that you have experience in forecasting the cost of a project based on past knowledge and industry research, collaborating with project managers to determine resource allocation throughout the project, tracking potential deviations from the project budget, solving issues related to costing, and writing project cost estimation reports for project managers.

A Cost Engineer contributes to the success of the construction project management process. Cost Engineer roles and responsibilities are to provide informed decisions about the budget and timeline of the projects as well as valuable insights that aid in the proper allocation of resources, identifying possible risks, and determining production costs.

The duties of a Cost Engineer are to be responsible for managing and providing guidelines on costs and resources for the whole construction operations process. Among their tasks are controlling the costs of supplies, assisting the project management team in making estimates, preparing revenue predictions, and calculating potential risks. Cost Engineers make sure projects are within budget and on schedule.

Cost Engineer Responsibilities

  • Conduct research to create forecasts about the cost of a project.
  • Create estimation reports for the project manager.
  • Collaborate with the project manager to make decisions about resource allocation.
  • Anticipate potential risks and develop preventative solutions.
  • Assist with feasibility studies and strategizing to increase margins of profit of a project.
  • Identify costs and overall budget, ensuring the project is on track.
  • Review and assess project timelines.

Requirements:  

 i)  2+ years as a cost engineer  or similar role         ii)  Pass the  examination
