Chartered Project Engineer 

The Chartered Project Engineer ™ (Ch.PE) is a gold-standard certification issued by The American Academy of Project Management ®.  Earning the Ch.PE credential demonstrates that you have skills and experience in engineering and technical disciplines needed to complete a project which include planning the project, establishing project plan, monitoring and controlling the project, and ensuring the projects are delivered within the scope, cost, schedule, and meet the project quality requirements.

Project Engineers assist with the scheduling, planning, forecasting, resourcing and managing of technical activities to ensure project accuracy and quality. They establish inspection criteria for the proper implementation of all project elements. 

A project engineer is responsible for the oversight of most major aspects of the project including organizing the acquisition of materials, equipment and workers, planning for costs, and supporting the Project Manager on various tasks. This position reviews design and bidding documents, evaluates contractor bids, and oversees construction progress and scheduling. Additionally, the Project Engineer provides technical support to construction staff under the supervision of the Project Manager.

Project Engineer Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with project architects, designers, owners, and field personnel.
  • Responsible for generating Request for Information (RFI) and submittals.
  • May be responsible for bid analysis, constructability reviews, and permit processing.
  • Inspects all work to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Offers technical information to the project supervisor to ensure work complies with applicable codes, drawings, and specifications.
  • General understanding of project budget; assist with buyouts
  • Monitor and track project quality control metrics and activities regularly, provide timely and accurate quality reports, and raise issues to the PM or Superintendent as appropriate.
  • Plan and organize construction engineering projects from conception to completion.
  • Generation of project punch list and closeout documentation.

Examination:  40 questions; Passing grade  70%.
