Role of a Software Analyst
The Software Analyst is in a unique position since the individual acts as a liaison between the business side of the organization and the IT side of the organization. The Software Analyst collaborates with end users and IT staff to evaluate computer systems and design new ones. Software Analysts help turn business goals into technical requirements. Most of the time, the Software Analyst aren’t the ones turning a wrench or writing code, but they know enough about those things to speak intelligently to the people who do. Communication is key to develop a successful career in this role.
Software Analyst examine existing IT systems and write requirements for new ones. Software Analyst analyze how well software, hardware and the wider IT system fit the business needs of their employer or of a client. They write requirements for new systems and may also help implement them and monitor their effectiveness.
Typical responsibilities include:
• examining current systems
• talking to users (requirements gathering)
• producing specifications for new or modified systems
• liaising with other IT staff
• implementing new systems
• user training and feedback.
